Minister of Culture Aleksandar Bogdanović visited the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” on Friday, February 23 and spoked with the director of the Library Bogić Rakočevićand his associates.
Bogdanović emphasized the importance of all the activities the Library has undertaken over the past ten years in order to obtain the Montenegrin language code.
Realization of projects that are of importance for improving the work of the Library and library function in Montenegro was discussed at the meeting. On this occasion representatives of the National Library presented the plan and the most important activities that will be implemented in 2018.
Bogdanović gave credit to the international cooperation realized by the National Library with related institutions and he evaluated it as extremely important for the improvement of its activities in accordance with European standards. In this respect, the Minister pointed out the significance of projects and programs of the European Union, and offered support and assistance from the Ministry of Culture in preparing the required documentation.
During the visit of the Library, it was noted that certain segments of the building in which the Library is located are in a quite bad condition even after several reconstruction stages which were previously carried out. It was agreed that the Library should provide the Ministry with the information as quickly as possible to determine the current state, define the reconstruction priorities and propose long-term measures in order to take care of a rich library material that the National Library inherits so it can be adequately preserved.
