Within the cultural cooperation of the Ministry of Culture of Poland and the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro, a study visit to the cultural institutions of Warsaw was organized for 9 representatives of Montenegrin national cultural institutions and the Ministry of Culture: NLM “Đurđe Crnojević”, National Museum of Montenegro, Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, State Archives of Montenegro, Gallery of Contemporary Art, Natural History Museum of Montenegro, Center for Conservation and Archeology of Montenegro and Library for the Blind.
The Ministry of Culture of Poland organized a program full of contents, which included a meeting with representatives of the Ministry itself, who are in charge of EU funds applications. A tour through the most important cultural institutions was organized: Heritage Protection Department of the City of Warsaw, Warsaw Museum, Royal Palace, Royal Park, Warsaw City Library, National Museum, Center for Contemporary Art, Frederic Chopin Museum and National Library.
The general impression is that this study was organized at the highest level, and that the representatives of Montenegrin cultural institutions had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the outstanding organizational and professional abilities of Polish colleagues, and to adopt new knowledge that is widely applied in that country.
The NLM representative was particularly interested in the organization of library activities, the protection of library funds, and especially older materials, as well as conservation and digitization procedures.
Therefore, this was a very valuable experience because the library activities, as well as all other cultural activities in Poland is at a very high level, thanks primarily to the state’s attitude towards cultural heritage and then to the high availability of European Union funds.
