On September 11, 2024, representatives of the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” - Director Dragica Lompar, MA, and Head of the Department for Library Information System and Digitization, Vjenceslava Ševaljević, MA, had a meeting in Municipality of Ulcinj regarding the current situation in the Public Library “Mirko Srzentić” in Ulcinj.
The reason for this visit is the fact that even a year after last year's official visit by the delegation of the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević”, this library still does not have adequate conditions for work.
In the premises of the Municipality of Ulcinj, the delegation of the National Library was received by the President of the Municipality, Mr. Genci Nimanbegu. Merita Subašić, Secretary of the Secretariat for Culture and Fatima Truma from the Office of the President, as well as Adriana Hoxha, Director of the PI Center for Culture participated in the meeting. The current difficulties that the Library faces in its activities were analyzed and plans were presented on how to start overcoming them.
After the meeting with the President of the Municipality of Ulcinj, the representatives of the National Library together with the director of the Cultural Center visited the Library, where they were received by the manager of the Library, Ardita Rama, with the employed librarians and library technicians. During the tour of the Library, it was noted that the conditions in which the written cultural heritage is kept are still inadequate, which could result in permanent damage to the material. In the Library, in the near future, along with the renovation of the premises and the acquisition of equipment, the revision of the library materials shall be conducted.
On the same day, the delegation of the National Library visited the Public Library “Ivo Vučković” in Bar, which also operates as part of the Cultural Center in Bar. The delegation was received by the director of the Cultural Center, Aleksandra Nikezić Grabež, and the meeting was attended by Sonja Lalević, manager of the Library.
It was established that the Library achieves excellent results in all fields. The fact that the procurement of materials follows all the needs and demands of the users is particularly commendable, because the budget allocated for that purpose can satisfy this important segment of library activity. Manager Lalević pointed out that there is a certain problem regarding the placement of materials as well as a special space for cultural events and workshops.
The Director of the National Library expressed her satisfaction with the results achieved by the library in Bar. She informed everyone about the initiative for the inclusion of all school libraries in Montenegro in the library-information system COBISS.CG, and emphasized the importance of the register office of public libraries that should animate school libraries regarding inclusion in the system. There are several school libraries in the area of the municipality of Bar, which could certainly be included in the system already in the first phase.
