THE WOUNDED HONOR BURNS THE BRAVE BREAST

An exhibition entitled “Čast ranjena žeže hrabra prsa”, whose authors are Danijela Radulović and Marija Mašanović was opened last night in the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević”.

The exhibition was organized on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Pero Šoć, and was ceremonially opened by H. E. Anne Marie Maskay, Ambassador of France to Montenegro.

Dragica Lompar, director of the library, and Mirko Stanić, vice-president of the Assembly of the Old Royal Capital of Cetinje, addressed the audience. One of the authors, Danijela Radulović, said a little more about the concept of the exhibition and the posters created by the academic artist Sandra Đurović. She explained that on this occasion “for the first time, a legacy is being exhibited in public, which represents a significant source of information about the life of Dr. Pero Šoć, his work and devotion to the Montenegrin cultural heritage.”

The exhibition was divided into 16 parts and each of them tells about the work and interests of a man who dedicated his life to Montenegro in different ways. The authors tried to bring the legacy of Dr. Pero Šoć and his life and work closer to the public and encourage people to do new research.

They also pointed to “episodes in his life that speak about the difficult and sad moments of his family and him personally. Moments in which “HONOR IS WOUNDED AND BURNS A BRAVE CHEST.”

“It is interesting that Pero Šoć, which is confirmed by his personal archive, devoted special attention to documenting and preserving various materials related to the gender related side of the history of Montenegro. Texts and personal notes about women, press - clippings, drawings he collected confirm that he paid significant attention to gender issues. This makes him one of the credible and very emancipated chroniclers of everyday life, character, education and courage of women in Montenegro. The way he wrote clearly indicates the existence of awareness of gender equality.” - said Radulović.

The students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Anđela Marunović and Miloš Kašćelan, also participated in the program, who read selected letters of Princess Ksenija Petrović Njegoš and Dr. Pero Šoć.

The exhibition is open to public and can be viewed in the building of the former French Embassy in Cetinje.
