“A NIGHT MORE PRECIOUS THAN A CENTURY” – CONCERTO FOR PIANO AND EXHIBITION OF THE BOOK – SCULPTURE

On 13th of July National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” organized exhibition Opening of the Book-Sculpture “A Night more Precious than a Century” by artist Irena Lagator Pejović and Concerto for Piano by young Czech composer Bára Císařovska who performed her composition “A Night more Precious than a Century”.

Within the program, which was opened by the Director of the National Library Jelena Đurović and Mayor of the Old Royal Capital Cetinje Aleksandar Bogdanović, an actor Vuk Čelebić recited poem “A Night more Precious than a Century” in English and excerpts from “The Mountain Wreath” in Spanish.

Director of the Library Jelena Đurović said that Irena’s sculpture corresponds with Njegoš, Crnojevića Printing House and library in general, and that, taking into account all three contexts, idea that the National Library of Montenegro „Đurđe Crnojević“ become the permanent location for its preservation and exposition, imposed itself quite naturally. She thanked Irena Lagator Pejović for this generous gift.
– I’m completely sure that this sculpture will not only be an outstanding representation of our history, literacy and literature but also a new offer of the cultural tourism in the Old Royal Capital and Montenegro – said Đurović.

The book-sculpture “A Night more Precious than a Century” by Irena Lagator Pejović consists of more than two thousand original drawings that represent visual stylization of each letter of Njegoš’s poem “A Night more Precious than a Century”. This work is permanently exhibited as part of the collection “Montenegrina” within the Museums Department of the National Library of Montenegro „Đurđe Crnojević“.

Composer Bára Císařovska performed a musical interpretation of the Njegoš’s most famous love poem “A Night more Precious than a Century”, for which Císařovska wrote the music and adapted it to the Njegoš’s hexameter. This is the first time, as far as it is known, that the form of hexameter was used as a musical term related to the poetry of the great poet and the first time that “A Night more Precious than a Century” was interpreted by piano. Apart from this song, the composer sang a few of her compositions in Czech and English, and within a one-hour concert she performed fragments from the works of Chopin, Brahms and Rachmaninoff. Bára Císařovska was born in Prague, where he completed all levels of music education and graduated in New York. She also writes music for films, and lives and works in Prague.
