The annual
Conference of Directors of European National Libraries was held in the National
Library of France (BNF) in Paris from June 18 to June 20, 2023. It was attended
by Dragica Lompar, director, and Slađana Sjekloća, coordinator for
international cooperation, on behalf of the National Library of Montenegro.
On the first
day, librarians were welcomed with a rich cultural program, which included a
visit to the stock exchange building and the Bourse de Commerce museum (“Pinault”
collection), as well as a tour of the buildings of the National Library of
France “Richelieu” and “Mitterrand” and introduction to their collections and
activities.
The CENL annual
report and financial report were adopted the following day. Also, the budget
plan for 2024 was presented. CENL Chair Frank Scholze presented 2023-2027
strategic plan. The main theme of the day was sustainable development and the
role of science, culture and ancient philosophy in striving towards its
realization, with the focus being on the ways in which national libraries can
contribute to it.
On the last day
of the conference, participants discussed sustainable development in terms of
architecture and buildings of national libraries, environment, preservation and
digitalization, as well as user services. A new law on legal deposit of the
National Library of Spain was presented. The winners of “Erland Kolding
Nielsen” grants awarded by CENL presented their reports on realized projects.
Tomasz Makowski, director of the National Library of Poland, gave a
presentation of his library, as the host of the next CENL annual conference.
