REPRESENTATIVE WORKS OF MONTENEGRIN PUBLISHING SINCE THE RESTORATION OF INDEPENDENCE UNTILL TODAY 2006 – 2024

On the occasion of marking 18 years since the restoration of independence of Montenegro, the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” organized the exhibition “Representative Works of Montenegrin Publishing since the Restoration of Independence until Today 2006 – 2024”.

Since 2006 until today, around 22,000 titles were published. From that number, due to limited space, 130 works were selected for this exhibition, presented within various scientific, artistic and lexicographic units. The authors of the exhibition are the director of the National Library, Dragica Lompar and library consultant Milenija Vračar.

Ivan Jovović, president of Matica crnogorska, opened the exhibition on Monday, May 20. He noted that “the Montenegrin past has not recorded so many quality publications from different fields, as in the period since 2006 to 2024” and said that “we can view this fact as a kind of confirmation that the restoration of Montenegrin independence strongly stimulated the total Montenegrin publishing, because the presented editions clearly point to the conclusion that thanks to these titles, Montenegro expanded its horizons of self-knowledge”.

He considered that “among the exhibited examples, not only because of the symbolism of the upcoming national holiday, but because of the essence, the Constitution of Montenegro from 2007 and the Orthography of the Montenegrin Language from 2010 should be singled out”.

Mr. Jovović congratulated the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” on the successful organization of the event, given that such and similar programs create a culture of memory, i.e. strengthen the attributes of the national and state identity of Montenegro.

The exhibition in the former Italian embassy building will be opened for visitors until July 13, the Statehood Day of Montenegro.
